Verona - where Romeo and Juliet first met
Verona - a well known place which set the scene of the story of Romeo and Juliet. Apart from the Juliet's house, Verona has so much to offer, well, so much more than we expected. We dare not to expect anything from Verona when we first arrived at Bergamo Airport. : /
After we got off the train, we were a bit rush, coz we emailed the landlord that we would arrive there at 3ish. The train that we took from Bergamo Airport to Verona was not a direct train. We had to change at a station called Travagliato. But the first train was delayed in one of the stations, we had to wait for an hour. : /
Bergamo Train Station!
We went to one of the tobacco shops at the train station to buy the Verona card, which costs 15 euros each. But we could save money with the Verona card to gain access to museums. The Verona card covers most of the tourist attractions in Verona. We just covered 5 out of the 15 places listed on the Verona card. We would have spent more than 30 euros if we didnt have the card with us.
After that, we took the taxi to the guesthouse, coz we were in a hurry. It costs us around 8 euros to get there by taxi. But there are buses from the train station to the guesthouse / the city centre of the attractions. The bus fare is included in the Verona card.
Our first stop was the guesthouse. If we had to give rating for the hostel, we would definitely give 100%! I will never forget every single bit of the house.
This is the living room. Breakfast is also provided.
Nice and Cosy room!!!!
The location of this guesthouse is very good as well. Piazza Erbe and St. Fermo are just on the other side of the bridge - Ponte Navi.
After leaving our luggages at the guesthouse, we went to the Piazza Erbe.
From the guesthouse that we stayed, it takes approximately 15 mins to walk to the Piazza Erbe.
This is the church of Saints Fermo. It is just before the Ponte Navi. We didnt have enough time in Verona. It was a great loss that we didnt manage to go in. =[
Fall in love with Verona! So Pretty!!
This is the centre of the square with the fountain and the monument. Charlene and I love shopping around markets. The market at the Piazza Erbe immediately drew our attention. You could find loads of souvenirs, nice hats and scarfs... quite a lot of interesting stuff.
well, I cant believe that we missed the Juliet's house (Casa di Giulietta) on our way to the Piazza Erbe. But indeed, there are not many signs outside Casa di Giulietta. So, it does take quite a long time to find it. See? this is the only sign. : /
We got free access to the Juliet's house with our Verona card. One thing that no one could ever miss - the balcony pic!!!!
The significant missing person!!!
The statue of Juliet! A tourist spot outside Juliet's house. Well, touching Juliet's right breast is supposed to bring you good luck in love. :/ The colour of her right breast was faded coz quite a lot of people touched it. =P
After visiting Juliet's house, we walked to the Arena. it isnt that far, it takes about 20 mins. Well, the arena is pretty big. It takes quite a while to find the entrance. I didnt know that Arena Di Verona is one of the biggest and well-preserved arena in Italy. Well, Verona does have so much to offer, not just the feelings of romance but it has loads of superb architectures. The Arena Di Verona was built in the first century A.D.!!
We then conquered the tower in Piazza Erbe. The tower is called the Lamberti Tower. The best place to view the extraordinary city. Well, basically, we could pay 1euro more to take a lift to get to the roof. But we didnt pay, accidentally. =P So, we walked to the roof of the tower!
Halfway of the conquest!
Here we goooo! we made it! =]
Well, straightly after our conquest, we treated ourselves better - A posh dinner!
Lasagna and me!!!
The restaurant is in the Piazza Erbe. Pretty good and the price is reasonable!
